Wild Kite Wine
Branding & Labels
We’d already created the brand identity for Wild Kite and designed their website, so when the wines were finally ready, we knew the labels had to feel every bit as distinctive as the brand itself.
Our label for Wild Kite is built around one simple idea: an elegantly understated, single wraparound label that uses the bottle itself as part of the design. Rather than printing an illustration of a kite, the two ends are carefully die-cut so that, as they wrap around the bottle and almost meet, the negative space creates the silhouette of a bird in flight.
Simple enough. Except, of course, it wasn’t.
Getting the shape, positioning and proportions to work perfectly around a curved bottle took a fair bit of trial, error and head-scratching. Thankfully, the client had the conviction to stick with the idea and, after plenty of refinement, we got there.
The textured paper stock is bucket-proof, while the characterful Iky Mono typeface adds a bit of personality. A clear tactile varnish over the typography catches the light and adds another layer of detail that you only really appreciate when you pick up the bottle.
The result is a label that reveals itself rather than shouts about itself – noticeable from a distance, intriguing up close and designed to be turned around in your hand.
We’d also come up with the line ‘Fine English wine takes flight’, so when it came to the product photography, there was really only one thing to do: make the bottles fly, and Stuart at Hype Photography delivered.

‘Jimmy worked with us to develop the Wild Kite brand for our English wines, and we couldn’t be happier with the result. We particularly love the label design and the clever use of negative space to create the kite.
Jimmy is incredibly creative, always full of great ideas and has a real knack for turning those ideas into something distinctive. He’s also hugely responsive and an absolute pleasure to work with.’
