My Tentacles
Album cover design and art direction for My Tentacles, from the consistently brilliant and constantly innovative Mieko Shimuzu.
We’ve always loved working with artists who aren’t afraid to do things a little differently, and Mieko certainly falls into that category.
For the artwork, we wanted to create something as intriguing and unconventional as the music itself. Taking inspiration from the album’s title, we combined octopus tentacles with clouds of swirling ink, creating an almost otherworldly image that feels somewhere between beautiful and slightly unsettling.
The contrast of deep blacks, vivid reds and flashes of pink gives the artwork a sense of movement and energy, while the restrained typography lets the imagery do most of the talking.
We carried the artwork across the album sleeve, vinyl labels, and the 12inch singles playing with scale, cropping and colour to create different interpretations of the same image.
Bold, a little strange and deliberately difficult to pin down.
