Emma Rice
Emma Rice Winemaker
Reserve Label
When old friend of Noisy, Emma Rice, came to us with a brief to create the labels for the very first wines made under her own name we were naturally very excited. We’d already designed her logo, inspired by a family crest she had discovered and built her website. This next step promised to be something special.
And it was. These are exceptional wines. Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grown in the chalk of the South Downs, aged for 13 years before finally emerging from the cellars in 2023 to be disgorged as the ultimate reserve wine. They showcase the nuance and character that comes from Emma’s patience and precision.
What really caught our imagination was Emma’s explanation that, although it’s essentially the same wine, half the bottles were stored en pointe (upside down), while the other half rested sur lattes (on their side).
Aha – we thought – there’s something in that. Since the bottles were to be sold as a pair in a beautiful presentation box, and designed to be tasted side by side, why not present the en pointe bottle actually upside down? And, while we’re at it, flip the label too, so it reads the right way when the bottle is, well… upside down.
And that’s what we ended up doing.
